Could it be Roman Polanski's "Rosemary's Baby" --- when the main character's birth, hallucinations or dreams (or experiences, I think it is) not clear to tie the witches and take away your baby. I've forgotten when it comes to knives. The film is in color, are the "witches" in the film only older people, women in disaster research.
I think I traumatized a pregnant woman in various horror movies, so they will not be surprised if this is not the movie you think. Suggest that, as is so popular that many people and watched cable television repeatedly broadcast. Not a slasher film.
